How to Make Your Dog Feel Safe During Thunderstorms

Thunderstorms can be frightening for many dogs. Loud thunder, flashes of lightning, changes in atmospheric pressure and unfamiliar noises can all make some pets anxious.

While you cannot control the weather, there are several things you can do to make your dog feel safer.

Create a Safe Space

Give your dog somewhere comfortable to retreat when a storm begins.

This could be their usual sleeping area, a quiet room or another familiar space where they already feel comfortable.

Keep their favourite toys and bedding nearby so the area feels familiar.

Keep Windows and Doors Closed
